City Lord Davis answered perfunctorily.
Jillian Hayden didn't believe him. However, she trusted her benefactor, so she could find some truth to those words. There was no way Venerable Knight Lussandra would deign to work with this vile person in her mind.
Although she didn't know what a Venerable Knight was, it sounded grander than a Venerable Elder.
Nonetheless, she felt incensed, feeling like she couldn't see through this old coot anymore, who played hard as though he was uninterested in her when he practically kept coming to see her nearly every day in the dungeon to change her mind and make her accept his 'invitation' to become a mistress.
"I tried to poison you, but you still have the gall to keep your eyes away from me? Aren't you afraid that I have a second poison essence to poison you to death?"
"So you knew what kind of poison it was…"
"I do. So what?" She answered boldly.
City Lord Davis sighed, feeling like she had signed her own death certificate just now.
After Evelynn heard this, she would be unwilling to leave her alive.
He could only go so far to protect Jillian Hayden from his lovely wife, just because he pitied her.
He was aware- he was aware that all the misfortune in this realm right now, from forcing ancient hidden families to scurry out and forcing mass migration on everyone, was because of him and the heavens, which spawned the Desolate Era in their fight. Due to this, everyone else became collateral. He and the heavens seemingly appeared to feel no remorse for causing such a disaster together.
After all, if he knew this would happen, he would've still freaking become an Empyrean.
Only his location of tribulation might've been different, but if necessary, he would've still done it in the Upper Realms.
"Don't incriminate yourself anymore." He gave her a word of advise.
"Mmph!" Jillian Hayden snorted, her arched brows raising even more, "What's there to incriminate myself with? You deserved to die under our family's heirloom- Corrupted Celestial Venom Essence bestowed by our family's benefactor billions of years ago to guard ourselves after we cured them of their own poison. It was meant to protect our family- so you dying under it miserably would've been a fitting end."
Davis simply shook his head.
He didn't want to explain himself to her, but if she was intent on courting death from Evelynn, then he wasn't going to stop her either.
Time passed again.
Jillian Hayden saw that this old coot really wasn't interested in her anymore and wasn't just acting.
She wondered if he was scared of the Venerable Knight.
However, she clearly saw him provoking the Venerable Knight to a battle and even dared to use the Saint as a shield. She had no idea what this old man was thinking.
Everything about him suddenly became enigmatic now.
Nonetheless, the fact that she was here and her fate was still undetermined didn't stop her from letting her thoughts go wild.
She suddenly felt the urge to take the situation into her control.
If she could convince this old coot to adopt her as his daughter, would that allow her to break free from this miserable fate?
Surely, this City Lord, who was known to want to have children, must have some soft spot in his heart for daughters, right?
Taking a deep breath again, she sat by his side and looked at him with a pitiful gaze.
"Elder, you seem somehow different than before. Did your past as a battlefield veteran cause you to feel guilt for your vile actions?"
Davis blinked as he heard her calling him elder.
This sudden change in tone caused him to tear his gaze away from the scroll and give her a good look.
"Fairy, you already are a pitiful being. I am aware of my wrongs, so I'm giving you a chance to go home. Write a letter to your family stating that the Saint that they trusted you with has sold you to the City Lord. If your family comes to pick you up and begs for me to release you, I'll let you go."
Jillian Hayden's instantly turned cold.
"And then- if they don't, you will lull me into becoming your mistress slowly as you play me to your heart's content?"
Her acting didn't even last five seconds.
Davis went speechless. It seemed like she misunderstood his genuine words. He chuckled.
22:36
"You have a big wall up. It's too thick, not that I want to break it. Also, you're disturbing me right now, so go sleep."
"You-"
Jillian Hayden saw him flick his finger, and a concentrated jet of soul force struck her soul, causing her to faint. She fell to the side and collapsed in an awkward position.
Davis pointed at her with soul force and threw her to the bed like a ragdoll before making her sleep in a comfortable position.
Then, he continued researching the Voidroach Blackcurse Movement Art.
After some time, a voice echoed in his soul sea.
"Are you angry with me?"
