c823: 762: Shifting the Blame

Battle buffer zone, Kodok Town, field hospital.

This is a temporary medical facility set up by the government army and the closest field medical station to the Machar Swamp.

Several white armored vehicles marked with "UN" drove up to the door, the screeching brakes filled with anxiety.

Captain Charles leapt out of the vehicle and shouted at the bewildered medical personnel standing at the door, "Get some people here! We have wounded who need urgent treatment!"

"Who are you people?"

One of the doctors noticed something amiss.

Although they were driving UN vehicles, their attire was completely mercenary-like. Typically, UN troops have strict dress codes during missions, including blue helmets and blue bulletproof vests.

However, the ones in front of him were in black combat uniforms, faces smeared with camouflage paint, unlike any UN Peacekeeping Forces.

"We are with the UN!"

Captain Charles roared, "We were attacked by armed elements during our mission, many are injured and need immediate medical attention, gather all your medical resources to treat our men!"

The doctor had never seen such rude and impolite UN troops, he instantly became suspicious.

"You..."

"What do you mean by you? Hurry up!"

Captain Charles turned around, seeing several wounded being carried from the armored vehicles and lying on the ground moaning, he became furious and swiftly drew a handgun from his waist, cocked it, and pointed it at the doctor's forehead.

"If any of my brothers have any issues, believe it or not, I'll blow your brains out right here!"

"Alright, alright..."

Being threatened with a cold gun barrel to his temple, the doctor felt an immediate urge to pee.

"Why are you still standing there, push the stretcher over!"

He had no choice but to turn around and shout at the nurses watching the scene, "Notify the duty physician, all medical staff to the emergency room."

Seeing the doctor comply, Captain Charles finally showed a bit of satisfaction, put away the gun, and said, "Use your best doctors, act quickly, if my men die here, I'll make you pay!"

This remark made the doctor even more suspicious of these individuals' identities.

But in this war-torn region, anything could happen.

He dared not ask further questions.

Keeping his life was the most practical option.

Seeing his men being pushed into the emergency room, Captain Charles finally breathed a sigh of relief, then he remembered Song Heping.

"Damn China people!"

Thinking he was so close to killing Song Heping, but a UN marked helicopter suddenly appeared, Charles immediately took out his phone to contact his high-level informant within the UN forces.

"Colonel Hart, we have a situation here."

"What situation?"

Colonel Hart on the other end of the call was instantly shaken.

After all, all fake UN identities used by the "Satan" mercenaries were orchestrated by him, the deployment of the UN helicopter for their rapid transport was a private arrangement he made.

It's fine as long as things go smoothly, but if something goes wrong, the executives above would definitely make him take the fall.

Thus, he couldn't sleep a wink tonight, answered the call in mere seconds, and now hearing that there's trouble, Colonel Hart felt his heart race.

"Our operation failed!"

Captain Charles gritted his teeth, "That Song guy isn't dead!"

"He isn't dead!?"

Colonel Hart jumped out of bed.

"He escaped!? How could this happen? Wasn't this supposed to be a small operation? Did he see the helicopter?"

"Look at you, coward!"

Captain Charles sneered, "We merely borrowed your helicopter for rapid deployment, how could he possibly see it? But there's one thing you must clarify, we had Song surrounded, but suddenly a UN flying squadron MI-8 helicopter appeared from above, people on board fired at us using aircraft weapons, killed several of our men, under such circumstances I could only command a retreat, Song got away!"

He tried to blame it all on the sudden appearance of the UN helicopter, without mentioning the losses earlier to Song Heping.

"UN has internal informants for Song!? How could he have air support, and from your UN flying squadron's aircraft!"

Charles implied a tone of accountability.

Hart's mind buzzed.

If Song Heping was killed, things would be easier.

Even if using UN helicopter was discovered, it could be justified as mission execution, after all, Song Heping was recognized as a terrorist by the UN, listed in their blacklist.

But now he escaped.

And another UN aircraft appeared.

Charles said UN has internal informants for Song...

If Charles wasn't lying, if there's indeed an informant, Song Heping would know of all Hart's private actions.
