c5: New Skin

Chapter 5: Chapter 5: New Skin Chapter 5: New Skin

’System, care to explain what just happened?’ Lynx asked, voice low. His dear aunt had fainted.

She was lying down on the small bed now, chest rising in shallow breaths.

[Chill dude, she fainted because of your aura. It was more suffocating than anything she’s ever seen or felt. She’ll wake up in a few mins... By the way, you stink man. Go bathe].

’Shut the hell up, you don’t even have a nose,’ he shot back, then lifted his arm and sniffed himself.

The smell hit him like a brick. Sweet and stinking sweat, smell like old wood and dust from 5 years of neglect.

’Damn, when was the last time this guy bathed? Oh right, I forgot he’s like a dead man among the living. But still...’ The thought made his stomach twist.

[Just go and come back before she wakes up.]

"Yeah, sure thing. Thanks, buddy," Lynx replied sarcastically. "You know, for a self-proclaimed god, you sure talk a lot."

No reply.

The System went quiet, like it was ignoring him.

Then he started walking to the bathroom. The floor was cold under his feet, the pipes groaned when he turned the tap. Warm water filled the old tub, steam curling up.

He submerged himself in it.

"Wow, feels so relaxing..." The heat sank into his bones. For the first time in two lives, his muscles weren’t aching.

"When was the last time I had a decent bath? Probably when I was 15, hahaha." He laughed at his own joke. But it came out wrong, wet and dry and his eyes were pained.

"I lived and died miserably. Ignored, I wronged by people but I couldn’t even do shit. That bastard was even looking for ways to fire me. But now that’s going to change." His fingers dragged through the water, watching ripples.

"I transmigrated into this new body. Got a nice house. Superpowers or what’s it’s called here, and a hot aunt that’s definitely going to end up in my bed before I leave this place..."

The words felt bold for someone who hasn’t seen a woman pants in his life. But with power comes confidence right?.

He started scrubbing, skin turning pink under his palms, like he was trying to wash away the years of being nothing.

.....

After he was done, he stepped out of the tub, water dripped down his new skin. He felt refreshing and energized like every cell in his body had been reset.

Then he heard it.

Stirring, movement and soft gaps from the room his aunt lay.

His hearing was sharper now. He could count her breaths.

’She must be awake and I gotta check this system out... hey system, show me my stats or whatever you call it.’

Lynx stared at the floating text, the blue light reflected in his eyes.

After checking his status and everything, Lynx smiled. This was it, his destiny.

He didn’t know if other A rank blessed stats were like this. But he could tell he was different.

[Of course you’re different. I’m a God system dude. Of course the power you have will be different, and the best part? You can’t stop getting stronger until you become Absolute.]

The System’s voice dripped with arrogance.

Lynx ignored it and started walking to the old wardrobe. The old wood creaked when he opened it. Dust floated in the air.

He couldn’t find any good clothes. This room wasn’t part of the main house. That’s why it hadn’t been used for years except to let the past him die slowly. Only maids came here to clean, and as it seems even they barely touched it.

He looked around. He couldn’t find anything, everything was old or torn, meant for a sickly boy who never grew.
