It was almost eight-thirty in the evening. Yan Feifan, Yu Suye, and Zhou Xian waved goodbye to each other in front of Xinfeng Restaurant.
After seeing Zhou Xian get into a taxi, Yu Suye couldn’t help but ask, "Feifan, can he really succeed?"
Yan Feifan said thoughtfully, "At his age, he doesn’t lack the skills, knowledge, or experience. What he’s missing is the courage to drop everything and just charge forward."
"Besides, it’s not like he’s just recklessly jumping into it. He still has to practice on pig hearts, work on cadavers, and swallow his pride to ask others for guidance."
"If he can truly let go of his burdens and focus on the task, his chances of success are at least ninety percent."
Yu Suye couldn’t help but smile. "If he succeeds, then I’ll have to congratulate you on gaining a brilliant disciple."
Yan Feifan shot her a look and huffed, "It was just a joke. You actually took it seriously?"
Yu Suye giggled. "It’s not me who’s taking it seriously. I think Dr. Zhou is."
"You saw how solemn he was about it. He said you were the master who gave him a wake-up call."
"He said if he breaks through his limitations and successfully performs major surgeries like heart transplants, he’ll acknowledge you as his master."
"But if he fails, he’ll be too ashamed to stay at the Affiliated Hospital."
Yan Feifan reached out and gently flicked Yu Suye’s forehead. He chuckled, "They say I don’t understand the ways of the world, but you’re even more naive than I am. Only you would take that kind of self-motivating talk seriously."
He saw Feng Jian drive the car over and urged, "Let’s go. Time to head back."
"Feifan-fan... Feifan-fan..."
A rather speechless Yan Feifan turned to look at Shu Lei, who had chased after them from the restaurant. Annoyed, he said, "Uncle, I’m a somewhat famous doctor now, you know. Can you please stop calling me by my childhood nickname?"
Shu Lei chuckled sheepishly. "I’ll try to be more careful in the future."
He paused, then quickly added a reminder, "Hey, Fei... Feifan, Su Ye, remember to keep this a secret!"
Yan Feifan grunted in acknowledgment. Then, suddenly remembering something, he instructed, "Uncle, since you’re back, go to the Dacheng Street Police Station in the next couple of days and find Director He Pengfei. You need to file a supplementary police report."
"A police report?" Shu Lei was confused.
Yan Feifan briefly explained what Mr. He had told him.
"Ah, so I can actually get some of my losses back..."
Shu Lei’s face flushed with excitement, his eyes shining, and he blurted out, "Feifan, I wasn’t the only one who got scammed back then. Rong Bin and the others also lost a lot of money."
"Should I tell them so they can file reports too?"
Yan Feifan’s expression darkened. He demanded, "You may have been scammed, but when you went there to gamble, they didn’t hold a gun to your head or force you with a knife, did they?"
"Don’t you have any idea what kind of activity gambling is?"
Hearing that, Shu Lei finally seemed to understand.
"I get it, I get it!"
"The police are only doing this because of you. They’re giving me a way to ’file a report and earn merit,’ overlooking my past involvement, and just finding a way to get some of my money back for me."
After saying this, a crestfallen Shu Lei turned and went back into the restaurant.
Yu Suye gently poked Yan Feifan with her finger. "Hey, I think you hurt your uncle’s pride."
Yan Feifan snorted. "So what if I did?"
"He says he won’t contact those bad influences anymore, but the moment something good comes up, he thinks of them."
’I really don’t know if letting him come back was the right decision.’
Yu Suye comforted him, "Your uncle was a sailor for several years. He’s been through a lot. I’m sure he won’t be like he was before."
Yan Feifan sighed softly. "I hope so..."
The two returned to their residence at Zuimo Court. It was past nine P.M., but his sister still wasn’t back.
Since Yan Feifan had a major reconstructive surgery for a complex right-hand injury the next day, he and Yu Suye discussed the surgical plan before heading off to wash up and get an early night’s rest.
When Yan Feifan came out of the bathroom after brushing his teeth and showering, he saw that his sister was back, and Zeng Ni was with her.
"What are you doing here again?" Yan Feifan demanded, clearly displeased.
"Feifan, don’t be rude to my friend."
Yan Ziruo chided him before tossing a set of clothes his way.
"I bought this for you. It’s a suit for the reception tomorrow. Go try it on."
Yan Feifan picked up the clothes and saw it was a dark blue, pinstriped suit. But the brand...
He studied the text on the label. It was in Italian.
Yan Feifan didn’t recognize the brand, but he could tell it wasn’t one of the well-known Italian designer labels.
"Sis, what brand is this?"
"Lardini."
It was Zeng Ni who answered him. "It’s a niche brand from Italy. People with real style and taste these days have stopped chasing so-called luxury giants like Armani."
"Those are for the nouveau riche and the tasteless wealthy."
Zeng Ni came closer to Yan Feifan and continued, "This brand’s suits are a good fit for Asian body types."
