Miao Quan, as if he hadn’t heard a thing, said casually, "Many of history’s most brilliant minds, if judged strictly by our modern standards, would be considered either neurotic or paranoid."

"You can’t achieve greatness without a little madness."

"Even in our own hospital, many of the guys with weird quirks aren’t exactly ’normal,’ neurologically speaking."

Miao Quan glanced at Yan Feifan and chuckled. "Your biggest ’abnormality’ is that you’re just too brilliant. So brilliant it’s almost unbelievable."

Yan Feifan gave a sheepish laugh. "I’m not really that brilliant. I just work a little harder than everyone else."

’It’s not that much, really,’ he added silently to himself. ’I’ve just had a few extra decades—maybe eighty or a hundred years—to hone my fundamentals compared to my peers.’

"Look at you. Your face says you don’t believe that for a second."

Miao Quan teased, then changed the subject. "Feifan, on another matter..."

"Xv Fang. What do you think of him?"

’Xv Fang?’ Yan Feifan was confused. ’Why would Mr. Miao suddenly bring him up?’

Miao Quan sighed softly. "He’s the son of a friend of mine."

"Like you, he’s also a surgical resident."

"He was doing fine at Union Medical College Hospital. But during a night shift, a small error occurred while resuscitating a terminal cancer patient, and the patient died."

"The family wouldn’t let it go, so Union Medical fired him."

Yan Feifan frowned. "Even if a doctor makes a mistake, a hospital wouldn’t just throw them under the bus to be a scapegoat."

"Especially since he’s just a resident."

"Mr. Miao, is there more to the story?"

Miao Quan sighed again. "The family accused Xv Fang of intentionally withholding treatment and letting the patient die."

’The moment Yan Feifan considered that the patient was terminally ill with cancer, he understood.’

Many terminal cancer patients are living in a state worse than death. They often beg their doctors to put them out of their misery.

But in our country, euthanasia is illegal.

And for various reasons, many families insist that doctors do everything possible to save the patient, to prolong their life, even if just for one more day.

’Judging by the fact that he was fired, Union Medical College Hospital must have concluded that Xv Fang had improperly assisted in euthanasia.’

’Just firing him was letting him off easy.’

’Otherwise, he could have faced prison time for it.’

Then, Miao Quan continued, "Feifan, Xv Fang is a surgeon. He won’t learn much by staying with me."

"How about you let him shadow you for a while?"

Yan Feifan grimaced. "Mr. Miao, I’m just a resident myself. I’m not qualified to supervise a student or an assistant."

"With your influence, couldn’t you get Xv Fang placed in any department in the hospital with just a single word?"

Miao Quan snorted. "I don’t have that much pull."

"Besides, his record of being fired from his last position is giving me a headache."

With a troubled expression, Miao Quan swallowed his pride. "Feifan, just do me this one favor, please!"

"You don’t have to go out of your way to teach him anything. Just let him follow you around and lend a hand, that’s all..."
