Yan Feifan was a little frustrated.
A moment of carelessness and a slip of the tongue, and the silver-haired weirdo had caught him.
At this point, he dropped the pretense and said bluntly, "Zeng Ni, you probably won’t believe me and will think I’m just making excuses."
"The truth is, in that situation, I had already figured out how to handle it. I was going to use my fourth left rib to meet the attacker’s knife."
"I’d take a flesh wound, but I’d use the force of the blow to retreat."
"But Lu Yao’s unexpected shove threw off my plan."
"If he hadn’t blocked the knife in time, it would have gone through the intercostal space and pierced my heart."
"The result would have been death."
Saying these words, which he had kept to himself, made Yan Feifan feel much more at ease.
"Such a drastic turn of events—from near-death to safety—is why I feel a bit reluctant to fully acknowledge this ’life-saving’ debt to Lu Yao."
Zeng Ni was clearly unconvinced. She challenged him, "Who are you trying to fool? It all happened so suddenly. You’re telling me you could calculate all that and react in such a short amount of time?"
Yan Feifan gave a light smile and said, "People can unlock infinite potential in emergencies."
"Besides, I’ve always been known as a genius."
After a pause, Yan Feifan added casually, "The past can’t be replayed. It’s up to you whether you believe me or not."
"Let’s just leave it at that..."
With that, Yan Feifan stopped explaining, stepped around Zeng Ni, and started to walk away.
"Wait!"
Zeng Ni ran in front of Yan Feifan again, blocking his path.
"Yan Feifan, the way you described it was so vivid, you’ve actually made me believe you a little."
"How about this? Let’s do a simple test."
"What kind of test?" Yan Feifan asked curiously.
Zeng Ni rummaged through the small leather purse she was carrying and pulled out eight one-yuan coins.
She tossed the coins back and forth between her hands a few times and said with a grin, "It’s simple. A test of your reaction speed."
"I’ll drop the coins from my hand. We’ll test it ten times. If you can catch them every single time, I’ll believe you."
"Do you dare to take the test?"
Seeing the provocative look on her face, Yan Feifan couldn’t help but smile. "Alright, I’ll play along."
Zeng Ni tossed the coins between her hands a few more times and said with a sly smile, "Aren’t you going to warm up or prepare a little?"
Yan Feifan shook his head.
Just then, Zeng Ni suddenly covered the coins in her right hand with her left and asked in a rapid-fire tone, "How many coins are heads-up?"
"And what are their mint years?"
"Quick, quick, 3..."
Just as the "2" was about to leave Zeng Ni’s lips, Yan Feifan spoke.
"Three! ’18, ’19, ’18."
Zeng Ni lifted her left hand and separated the stack of coins in her right palm. Her eyes widened to twice their size...
At that exact moment, a young nurse came running over, out of breath. She grabbed Yan Feifan’s hand and started pulling him away.
"Mr. Yan, quick, quick, quick... It’s an emergency."
Hearing it was an emergency, Yan Feifan immediately sped up, overtaking the young nurse.
"Is the patient here? What’s going on?"
"The patient is... is..."
In her panic, the young nurse momentarily forgot her words, then shouted anxiously, "Mr. Yan, just follow me!"
Yan Feifan had no choice but to follow the young nurse, quickly taking the stairs up one floor.
This floor was above the surgical floor and housed the inpatient building’s storerooms, as well as offices, on-call rooms, and lounges for the medical staff.
Yan Feifan followed the young nurse into a lounge and saw only three empty bunk beds.
"Where’s the patient?" Yan Feifan turned to look at the young nurse.
He watched as the young nurse closed the door behind her, then pulled off her cap, letting a cascade of dark hair fall down.
"Mr. Yan, I’m sorry. I had no other choice."
As she said this, the young nurse forcefully tore at the collar of her uniform.
Buttons popped off, revealing a stretch of smooth, pale skin.
The young nurse then scratched her full left breast, and three bright red, startling welts of blood immediately appeared...
