c436: 435: I Should Be Able to Do It

"It’s definitely flying in our direction."

Wang Chuan noticed the flashing red dot growing brighter and the distinct beam of light drawing closer. The roar of the propellers grew louder, confirming Yan Feifan’s assessment.

He said with a serious expression, "If that helicopter is here for us, Feifan, it’s almost certainly for you."

Wang Chuan added, his voice laced with confusion, "What kind of major incident could this be? Or has some VIP gotten into trouble?"

"To think they’d send a helicopter to pick someone up!"

By now, the people in the RV must have been woken up.

The lights inside the RV turned on.

Bathed in the light from the RV, Yan Ziruo met her brother’s gaze and said guiltily, "Feifan, I made everyone turn off their phones. I never expected a major emergency would happen."

"Who knew it would be such a coincidence? I didn’t mean for this to happen."

Yan Feifan reached out and wiped the rain from his sister’s face, comforting her softly, "Sis, I’m not blaming you."

"Besides, this helicopter isn’t necessarily here for me."

"Sis, let’s go back to the tent and change out of our pajamas first."

"And our shoes..."

Inside the tent, Yan Feifan quickly rinsed and dried his feet with bottled water. He then noticed a bright beam of light sweeping back and forth across the tent.

The wind suddenly intensified, making the tent rock from side to side.

He quickly put on his shoes, threw on a jacket, and stepped out of the tent again with his sister and Wang Chuan.

Their eyes were immediately riveted.

A dark figure rappelled down from the helicopter hovering almost directly overhead, just like in the movies. With a WHOOSH, he landed in an open spot not far from their tent.

The dark figure unclipped the buckle on his rope, jogged over to Yan Feifan and the other two, and shouted, "Which one of you is Dr. Yan Feifan?"

Yan Feifan noticed the man appeared to be around thirty. He was dressed in what looked like dark camouflage combat fatigues, with numerous straps and buckles on his body, and a helmet on his head.

"I’m Yan Feifan!"

Yan Feifan had to practically shout his reply.

He had no choice. The noise from the helicopter was simply deafening.

He shouted again, "What’s going on?"

The soldier snapped a crisp military salute to Yan Feifan.

"Dr. Yan Feifan, we are under orders from our superiors to retrieve you immediately for an emergency medical mission."

"Dr. Yan, please come with me..."

Hearing this, Yan Feifan started to follow the man without another word, but his arm was suddenly grabbed.

He turned to see it was Wang Chuan.

Wang Chuan took two steps forward and loudly questioned the soldier, "Superiors? Which superiors, specifically? What’s their name? Their position?"

"Where are you taking Yan Feifan?"

"To treat what kind of patient?"

"And who are you?"

This string of questions left the soldier a bit stunned.

He froze for a moment before quickly replying, "We’re the Binhai Special Police Assault Team, carrying out a direct order from our commanding officer."

"This is an emergency mission. We were ordered to find Dr. Yan and bring him to the Armed Police General Hospital as quickly as possible."

"For any other details, you’ll have to verify them with our superiors."

"Time is short. I’ll repeat: our orders are to find Dr. Yan and get him to the hospital as fast as possible."

Yan Feifan smiled at Wang Chuan and said persuasively, "Director, don’t worry. I’m just a doctor. Even if bad guys wanted to kidnap me, they wouldn’t go to this much trouble."

He then reached out and gave his sister’s hand a quick squeeze, waved at the approaching Yu Suye and Song Yi, and followed the soldier to the spot where he had landed.

A rope-like steel cable with a hook was dangling there.

The soldier first clipped the rope’s hook to a buckle on a strap across his chest.

Then, the man undid a strap about four inches wide from his own gear, passed it under Yan Feifan’s armpits, and fastened him to himself.

"Dr. Yan, don’t be afraid. I guarantee your absolute safety!"

Before Yan Feifan could reply, he felt the strap under his armpits tighten, and his feet left the ground as he was hoisted upward.

He saw his sister, Wang Chuan, Yu Suye, and Song Yi standing together, looking up at him, and quickly waved to them again.

They shrank below him as he was lifted higher and higher. The noise and wind grew more intense. Yan Feifan was just about to take in the distant scenery when his ascent halted abruptly, and he was pulled into the cabin.

The cabin door closed, the strap was unfastened, and before the still-dazed Yan Feifan could react, someone in the cabin helped him to a seat, skillfully buckled his seatbelt, and placed a helmet on his head.

As soon as the helmet was on, Yan Feifan felt the world grow much quieter. At least he no longer had to endure the headache-inducing roar of the propellers...

Just then, someone thrust a tablet into Yan Feifan’s hands.
