A little after four in the afternoon, Yan Feifan, summoned by a phone call, arrived at the director’s office to find not only Director Liu Jin, but also Wang Chuan, Qu Ying, and his sister.
Liu Jin asked with a cheerful laugh, "Feifan, take a guess. As of three o’clock this afternoon, how much has the hospital received in total donations across all its charity accounts?"
Yan Feifan shook his head. "I’m not going to guess. Sir, why don’t you just tell me the exact number?"
"You’re no fun."
Liu Jin turned to Yan Ziruo. "Ziruo, you tell him."
Yan Ziruo opened a small notebook, cleared her throat, and said, "Feifan, as of three o’clock this afternoon, the hospital’s three publicly disclosed bank accounts have received a total of 23,127 donations, amounting to 9,127,369 RMB."
"That much!" Yan Feifan was genuinely surprised.
Yan Ziruo explained, "Some large donations came in later. The single largest one was for one million."
"We also received donations of various amounts, like six hundred sixty thousand, five hundred thousand, two hundred thousand, and one hundred thousand."
Wang Chuan chimed in, "The plastic surgery center also received some monetary and material donations, including supplies from Baiyulan Group, one million from Mr. Zuo, and the donation pledged by the superstar Ding Xuan."
"Plus, there’s over two million in donations forwarded from the *Social Weave* program, and so on."
"That brings the total to over six million."
Liu Jin chuckled. "Feifan, the hospital leadership has discussed this. We’ve decided to pool all these public donations and establish a fund in your name—the Extraordinary Fund—for centralized management."
The idea sounded like a hassle, and Yan Feifan’s first instinct was to refuse.
But Liu Jin continued, "Feifan, this fund will be used primarily for your medical research and for charitable medical work."
"And as for approving expenditures, you will have the final say."
Yan Feifan was taken aback. He asked for confirmation, "Sir, are you serious? You’re really giving me that much authority?"
"That’s over fifteen million. It’s no small amount."
Liu Jin chuckled. "This was a unanimous decision by the leadership. Of course we mean it."
"However, Feifan, you need to be very clear about one thing..."
Liu Jin’s tone grew serious.
"You can only use these funds for medical research, charitable surgeries, and related purposes."
"You are absolutely forbidden from re-categorizing the funds, diverting them for other uses, or lining your own pockets."
Yan Feifan replied with a serious expression, "Sir, you can rest assured on that point. I’m not short on money, and I’m capable of earning it. I would never risk something great for a petty gain."
He mulled it over. "Having a fund like this under my own control will give me the flexibility to act as needed when I encounter medical issues in the future."
"Sir, I agree to the fund."
Liu Jin nodded. "A wise decision. Having funds on hand gives you the initiative in many situations."
He then gestured toward Yan Ziruo. "And speaking of trust, your sister will be in charge of the fund’s financial management."
"She’ll also work with Mr. Qu to manage and update your social media accounts..."
Yan Ziruo and Qu Ying had already finished setting up several social media accounts for Yan Feifan.
The establishment of the Extraordinary Fund became the subject of the first official post on all of Yan Feifan’s social media accounts.
To film the video, Yan Feifan changed into a fresh white lab coat and quickly tidied his hair.
Yan Ziruo had wanted to put some makeup on her little brother, but he flatly refused.
Even though it was just a phone camera, Yan Feifan still felt awkward. It took over ten takes before they got a barely acceptable version.
In the six- or seven-minute video, Yan Feifan announced the official launch of the Extraordinary Fund and thanked everyone for their generous contributions.
He then explained the fund’s purpose.
He also solemnly pledged to regularly post public statements of income and expenditures on his social media accounts, allowing for full transparency and public oversight.
He also took the opportunity to announce the fund’s new bank account number.
After finishing the video, Yan Feifan checked the time. It was almost six in the evening. He hurried to the hospital’s south entrance.
The familiar red Mercedes sports car was parked by the curb.
Yan Feifan opened the door, plopped into the passenger seat, and urged, "We need to stop by City First Hospital first. I have to get to a surgery."
"Did you ask me out to be your chauffeur, or to buy me dinner?"
Hearing Song Yi’s quiet complaint, Yan Feifan explained as he fastened his seatbelt, "To buy you dinner, of course."
"I’ve already made reservations."
"The surgery will take an hour at most. We won’t be delayed for long."
Only then did Yan Feifan notice the exquisite makeup on Song Yi’s face. She looked stunning.
"Why are you wearing heavy makeup again?"
Song Yi quickly checked her reflection in the rearview mirror. "What? Does it look bad?"
"It took me a while to put this on."
Yan Feifan said frankly, "It looks good, but heavy makeup damages your skin, no matter how high-quality the cosmetics are."
