At 7:20 PM, Yan Feifan arrived at the office of Dr. Tan Qiu in the psychiatry department.
Dr. Tan, who had been privately voted by many of the hospital's reserved male doctors as its foremost intellectual beauty, put down her tablet, stretched, and rose from her seat.
"Mr. Yan, please have a seat. Would you like something to drink?"
Yan Feifan shook his head. "Thank you, but I've already eaten and had plenty to drink. I'm fine!"
He showed no intention of sitting down and asked, "Dr. Tan, was there anything wrong with Wang Dongdong's psychological evaluation?"
Yan Feifan added worriedly, "Usually, when patients come for a pre-cosmetic surgery psychological evaluation, it's handled by residents or attending physicians."
"For you to handle it personally this time… are her issues that serious?"
Tan Qiu took a carton of milk from the refrigerator and poured herself a glass.
"Mr. Yan, don't worry. Wang Dongdong doesn't have any major issues. It's just that I happened to run into her today…"
Tan Qiu took a sip of milk and sat down gracefully on the long sofa in the middle of the office, crossing her legs.
"I noticed that although her appearance is…"
Tan Qiu said tactfully, "…quite distinctive, there was very little avoidance or timidity in her eyes."
"I found that interesting, so I decided to take on her psychological evaluation myself."
She placed the glass on the coffee table, tilted her head slightly, and looked at Yan Feifan with a smile. "Mr. Yan, are you in a hurry to leave for something?"
"Or… are you afraid that if you spend too much time with me, I might accidentally discover something I shouldn't?"
"Why don't you sit down?"
Yan Feifan let out a nervous chuckle and sat down on the small sofa across from Tan Qiu. He said, half-jokingly, "I really am afraid you'll discover that I'm not mentally sound."
Tan Qiu gave a faint smile. "It's like how a drunk person never admits they're drunk."
"People who say they have mental issues usually imply that their mental state is still within a controllable range."
She chuckled softly. "In reality, every single one of us has psychological issues to some extent."
"Especially in a high-pressure profession like medicine, it's perfectly normal for psychological issues to arise, but most people can work through them on their own."
"So, don't worry, and don't avoid the doctor just because you're afraid of the diagnosis…"
As Tan Qiu watched him with her eyes, which were like deep jade pools, Yan Feifan couldn't help but feel a sense of warmth and trust, an impulse to spill all the secrets in his heart.
He shook his head, banishing the inappropriate thought.
"Dr. Tan, about Wang Dongdong?"
Tan Qiu seemed to snap back to the topic. "Oh, right, Wang Dongdong!"
"After talking with her, I found the little girl quite interesting."
"She has a maturity beyond her years and a simple, practical wisdom for navigating life."
"More importantly, I found her personality to be remarkably proactive. It's not the kind of aggressive proactiveness that stems from extreme insecurity and sensitivity, but a genuinely sunny and positive attitude."
Yan Feifan couldn't help but chuckle. "Well, if she hadn't secretly snuck into Mr. Wang's office and begged me while hugging my leg, she wouldn't be here today."
Tan Qiu smiled as well. "That's what I mean by survival wisdom."
"There are only so many opportunities out there. If you proactively fight for them, your chances of success are much higher."
The smile vanished from Tan Qiu's face. "For someone in her situation to have such a positive and forward-looking mindset is truly rare."
"I'm preparing to conduct a long-term follow-up study on her…"
She explained, "The main reason I want to do this study is that her appearance is about to undergo a major transformation."
"I'm also planning to create a virtual persona of Wang Dongdong—a version of her whose appearance doesn't change."
"Through a long-term study…"
"Say, over ten years, by comparing the real Wang Dongdong with the virtual one and observing their different life paths, I hope to shed light on certain social issues."
Hearing this, Yan Feifan grew a little confused.
"Dr. Tan, how can a virtual Wang Dongdong have a real life path?"
Tan Qiu gave an enigmatic smile. "Well, to put it simply, it's about using Wang Dongdong as a blueprint to build a character model and run an unscripted life simulation."
She added, "Of course, there are no parallel universes. Virtual is just virtual. This can only serve as a simple reference."
After a pause, Tan Qiu added, "Mr. Yan, the greater the contrast in Wang Dongdong's appearance, the more meaningful the research will be."
"I'm very much looking forward to the post-surgery Wang Dongdong being a stunning beauty, someone refreshingly unconventional."
Yan Feifan replied noncommittally, "My skills are limited. I can only do my best to make her look as good as possible…"
After leaving the psychiatry building, Yan Feifan once again went to the inpatient area of the plastic surgery center.
He found that Wang Dongdong wasn't in her own room, but was chatting in Qiqi and Jingjing's room.
Wang Dongdong followed Yan Feifan back to her room and said softly, "Mr. Yan, I will never forget your incredible kindness."
"Please believe me, I'm not just saying that!"
Yan Feifan said nonchalantly, "You don't have to be like this. Just try to live a happy life and become someone who contributes to society. That's enough."
