c518: 517: A Clear Conscience

A little after twelve noon, Wang Chuan returned to the office after finishing his work and saw Yan Feifan sitting alone on the sofa in the reception area, spacing out.

Noticing that he didn’t seem to be lost in deep thought, Wang Chuan patted him on the shoulder out of curiosity.

"What are you spacing out about?"

Yan Feifan stirred and sighed. "I was planning to squeeze them for two or three million, but I never expected them to just casually toss out tens of millions."

"I’m a little stunned. I’m afraid it’s too good to be true, and I won’t be able to handle it."

Wang Chuan sat down on the sofa beside Yan Feifan and chuckled. "Go on, tell me what happened. I’ll help you think it through."

Yan Feifan gathered his thoughts and said, "On Tuesday night, I got back to Zuimo Court and discovered someone had broken into my apartment..."

"Broken into?" Wang Chuan asked, his expression turning serious.

Yan Feifan nodded and continued, "I quietly reported it to the police, and they solved the case in just one day."

"The police arrested Lin Zuo from the Lin Family, who runs the surgical robot project for the Baiyulan Group."

"He was the one who had someone install a hidden camera in my room."

Wang Chuan pressed in a low voice, "So Ouyang Yanran, representing the Lin Family, offered you tens of millions to settle?"

Yan Feifan nodded, then quickly corrected him, "Not tens of millions in cash. It’s a villa on Phoenix Tail Mountain."

Hearing this, Wang Chuan said, slightly annoyed, "No wonder that woman was asking me so many questions about you this morning. So she was just pumping me for information, trying to figure out what you like."

After a moment’s pause, he asked, "And you agreed?"

Yan Feifan nodded, but his voice was laced with worry. "I agreed, but I feel a little apprehensive. I just have this unsettled feeling in my gut, like this villa is too hot to handle."

"It’s a villa worth tens of millions, and the case wasn’t even that big of a deal."

Yan Feifan added, "According to Ouyang Yanran, the reason the case was solved so quickly is that the Lin Family pulled some strings and found out that people from the military and State Security got involved."

Wang Chuan let out a sound of realization. "Ah, that makes sense. You’re collaborating with the PLA General Hospital now, and you treat important people from the military every week. It’s understandable that they would take an active interest in this case."

Wang Chuan continued his analysis, "Lin Zuo is one of the core executives at the Baiyulan Group. Since it’s a publicly traded company, if news broke that he masterminded an incident like this, the Baiyulan Group would definitely suffer tremendous damage."

"Their market value could plummet by several billion, even tens of billions."

"For them, coughing up a single villa worth a few tens of millions to buy your silence is still a bargain."

At this point, Wang Chuan added a word of caution. "The issue here is, with the military involved, can this matter really be smoothed over even after you’ve accepted their settlement?"

"As businessmen, they’ve calculated every angle of a situation like this."

Wang Chuan added cheerfully, "Just the other day, your sister was pestering you to earn more money to buy a villa for her dowry."

"She’s going to be absolutely ecstatic this time."

"So, where exactly is this villa? How big is it?"

Yan Feifan chuckled. "I don’t know the exact location yet, just that it’s in the Phoenix Tail Mountain Villa District."

"As for the size, they said it’s over four hundred and fifty square meters..."

After a quick lunch with Wang Chuan, Yan Feifan took Xv Fang to the neurosurgery inpatient building. He needed to perform a brain examination on the actor, Qin Lang, and the sixteen-year-old girl.

Yan Feifan also asked about the patient from yesterday’s emergency rescue, the one with the chopstick stuck in his brain.

The patient was still in the ICU, in a coma.

He was breathing on his own, his brainwave activity was within the normal range, and there were no signs of infection, though he did show signs of severe cerebral edema.

From the information Yan Feifan had gathered, the patient’s life had been saved.

But with such a severe brain injury, it was hard to say how well the patient would recover...

Xv Fang and one of Dr. Qiu Ge’s assistants wheeled Qin Lang and the girl out of the sterile ward and slowly made their way to the CT room.

Dr. Qiu Ge, who was following them, gestured toward Xv Fang with her eyes and asked curiously, "Mr. Yan, whose student is he?"

Yan Feifan sighed lightly. "Mr. Miao from the Psychiatry Department forced him on me. For now, he’s serving as my assistant."

At his words, Dr. Qiu Ge couldn’t help but let out a small gasp. She then said eagerly, "Mr. Yan, in for a penny, in for a pound. Why don’t you take on another assistant...?"

Yan Feifan quickly cut her off. "Dr. Qiu, please, stop. It’s really not a good time for me to be mentoring an assistant."

"I’m still a student myself; I wouldn’t know how to supervise another one."

Dr. Qiu Ge glanced at Xv Fang up ahead and grit her teeth in frustration. But when it came to Yan Feifan, she didn’t dare show her temper.

"Fine, Mr. Yan. If you won’t take one, you won’t. But let’s agree on this first..."

"The next time you take on a student or assistant, you have to give me a heads-up. The person I recommend has to be in the running."

"Fine, no problem..." Yan Feifan said casually.

The results of Qin Lang’s and the girl’s head CT scans came out quickly.

The images showed that the targeted blood clot was mostly ablated, with only a few scattered specks remaining around the edges.

Looking at the scan results, Dr. Qiu Ge said happily, "We can stop the ablative agent."

"The remaining specks of the clot won’t cause any substantial damage; they can be slowly dissolved by the brain’s own circulation."

After a brief pause, Dr. Qiu Ge continued, "Mr. Yan, I suggest we don’t remove the inserted catheter just yet. Instead, we can use it to administer nutrients and recovery-promoting agents."

"Delivering the agents directly to the damaged part of the brain will be far more effective for their recovery, dozens of times more so than intravenous infusion."

Yan Feifan said thoughtfully, "We can do that, but let’s limit it to two days."

"Any longer, and we’ll increase the risk of infection."

Dr. Qiu Ge nodded in agreement and added with a small laugh, "Mr. Yan, your puncture injection technique could also be used for administering medication, delivering it directly to the core of a lesion."

Yan Feifan waved his hand. "You don’t need me for that. Plenty of doctors have that kind of puncture skill."

"But none of them are as precise as you," Dr. Qiu Ge insisted. "Especially when dealing with complex situations, like a tumor located deep inside the body. Puncturing a major blood vessel is no laughing matter..."

With the blood clots in Qin Lang and the girl dissolved, Yan Feifan’s work was considered complete.

Dr. Qiu Ge took over all of their subsequent treatment and recovery.

In these areas, Dr. Qiu Ge’s experience was indeed far richer and more seasoned than Yan Feifan’s.

Yan Feifan returned once more to the cosmetic surgery center to work on Ya Jiaojiao’s surgical design plan.

Although Yan Feifan claimed to be equally dedicated to every patient, he was undeniably spending more time on this particular surgical plan, as it was going to be publicly demonstrated in front of cosmetic surgeons from across the country.

As for Xv Fang, Yan Feifan arranged for him to do rounds, telling him to thoroughly familiarize himself with the several patients he had personally operated on.

At nearly five in the afternoon, Yan Feifan was in the computer lab working on post-operative renderings for Ya Jiaojiao when the young nurse, Ye Lin, came trotting over to tell him something.

A handsome young man named Chu Xiaolong was looking for him...
