c3405: Demon Record (28)

She had taken the demon king core and the snake king’s corpses to create a smokescreen.

She couldn’t afford to be linked to this event in any way, especially not when facing the power of the state.

Until her entrustor returned, the goal was to avoid as much trouble as possible.

Ning Shu sat in a peach tree, her body shrouded in a water barrier that rendered her invisible.

She asked 2333, “Do you think Hong Yu will return to this plane?”

If she came back again, that would be a total screw-up.

“Maybe. That woman likely has a background. Being able to pinpoint your location among countless planes isn’t easy,” 2333 said in a heavy voice.

Ning Shu’s heart sank. What kind of mess was this?

Would her location be easily trackable by anyone in the future?

“We can shield our location so the main system can’t pinpoint it. Most task-takers choose to shield their locations. We can do the same,” 2333 said.

Ning Shu nodded. “Then let’s block our information and location.”

“2,000 merit points.”

Ning Shu: “Screw you!”

Ning Shu then asked 2333, “What does blocking information mean?”

“It basically means the main system knows a task-taker like you exists, but it won’t know where you are. However, you still have to turn in your soul power.”

Ning Shu just wanted to scream about what a rip-off this was. She had zero privacy. She couldn’t even block her social feed without paying And it cost two thousand merit points?

Go to hell!!

Still, Ning Shu gritted her teeth and said, “Block it.”

If people could always locate her, her tasks would be twice as hard. She wouldn’t just have to complete the task. She’d have to deal with other task-takers too.

It would be fine if it were a task-taker willing to cooperate, but if it were someone with malicious intent, Ning Shu’s workload would double.

There was a saying, ‘You can be a thief for a thousand days, but you can’t stay on guard against a thief for a thousand days.’

Ning Shu pressed her lips together. When necessary, she would have to use forceful means so people wouldn’t think she was easy to bully.

As if anyone could just come and provoke her.

Had they ever killed a task-taker before?

Especially a task-taker who possessed an ordinance imprint?

“Is it blocked?” Ning Shu asked 2333.

“Yep, blocked. When you’re on a task, others won’t be able to track your location anymore,” 2333 replied.

“Can I track other people’s locations?” Ning Shu asked. There was no reason for her to take a hit and just swallow it.

She’d give them a taste of their own medicine!

“You can’t locate them. I should say that basically no task-taker can locate another task-taker. That’s why I said that woman has some serious backing. If we take her down, we might pull out a whole string of people behind her.”

2333 sighed.

Ning Shu curled her lip. “So we just let it go?”

It was truly frustrating.

2333 said, “‘Those who accomplish great things in ancient times not only had extraordinary talent but also unwavering determination.’1A famous quote by Su Shi (Su Dongpo), a renowned poet and statesman of the Song Dynasty. They endured what ordinary people could not endure and achieved what ordinary people could not achieve. You don’t have to take your revenge right this moment. Your foundation is a bit weak. You are indeed weaker compared to a veteran task-taker like her.

“In terms of connections and resources, you can’t compare in any aspect. But as task-taker, the one thing you have plenty of is time.”

2333 comforted Ning Shu.

Ning Shu nodded. “I understand.”

She stretched her back and lay on the tree branch with her head resting on her arms.

This task should be about done. The snake king was dead, and the demon king core was in her hand.

Ning Shu squinted and dozed off. When she woke up, she saw a white rabbit under the tree, holding a peach and eating it.

It was one of the peaches that had fallen to the ground.

Tsk, tsk.

The little rabbit is very white, his two ears go up; cut the artery, then the vein. It doesn’t move, it feels no pain.2A dark parody of a popular Chinese nursery rhyme, Little White Rabbit.

How cute.

Ning Shu sat on the branch, watching the rabbit eat the peach.

Eagles and rabbits were natural enemies, right?

Ning Shu rested her chin on her hand, watching the fluffy rabbit munching away.

There was demonic energy on this rabbit. It was likely a demon that hadn’t taken human form yet.

Ning Shu pointed a finger, and a splash of water fell onto the rabbit. Its fur was instantly soaked, making it shrink into a small ball.

The rabbit looked up, glancing around, but it couldn’t see anyone, nor could it see Ning Shu sitting in the tree.
