c104: Class Change

Chapter 104: Class Change Darla’s mouth gaped open, looking at the class stone in her hand. Then she looked up at Red. Her head was getting fuzzy, and I could not believe what he had in her hand.

Just like a core, a class stone was something the adventurer or mercenary could obtain from the dungeon. That was her limited information on how to obtain the class, but she was well aware of the class rarity.

It started with Common Class like the one she had. Then there was Guard, Warrior, Archer, Shield Bearer, and more. Those were Common Class.

Then there was an Uncommon Class. She had limited information, but she encountered a few of the adventurers with Uncommon Class. Her friend had a Hunter Class, which was Uncommon Class. Her friend’s adventurers also mostly had Uncommon Class, with their leader being a Rare Class holder.

Above the Rare Class were Heroic, Epic, and Legendary. That was the limit of her knowledge about the class, and he was holding an Epic Class Stone. Something she could not afford for the rest of her life.

Epic Class Stone was not something commoners could buy just because of the money. They needed a connection as well. The Kingdom’s regulation didn’t allow the merchant to sell Epic Class Stone to the public. An auction was the only way to obtain Epic Class rarity.

That was another issue: not everyone could participate in the auction. Again, money was not the only issue; she needed a connection to participate in the auction.

Or maybe a lucky adventurer might get it from the dungeon. Getting it from the dungeon was the only way for people with no status or low-ranked adventurers to obtain such a class.

Yet here Red presented her with the thing that she might not be able to get for the rest of his life. Her heart raced, thinking of all kinds of possibilities from learning the class.

Darla quickly snapped as a pair of red eyes stared at her. There was no malice or suspicion in his gaze, merely curiosity. A bitter realization sank in. The stone class didn’t belong to her.

She remembered what he asked. He asked her if she could use the class stone or not. She didn’t know why he asked. She truly could not read what was in his mind, but she knew he was not a monster with schemes. In fact, he was an honest, borderline naive. That was how she looked at Red.

"I can learn it." Darla nodded.

Red offered his palm. Even with no words spoken, she understood he was asking the stone class back. It was a lie if she was not disappointed, but she reminded herself again that she was not in the position to take something like this. Deep inside, she was aware of her status as a slave.

She placed the stone back on Red’s palm, and there she watched him, staring at the glowing stone. At some point, his stare became so intense. It was a funny scene to watch for sure.

Red was genuinely frustrated, as nothing was coming out when he received the stone. Darla could use the stone without doing anything, meaning there was no special way to use the stone.

He tried to use it again, using intent to use the stone, then he used his mana. Nothing worked for him, and he gave up. It meant the stone was not for him.

It was frustrating, but not too bad since his female human could use it. He was unwilling to give it up for the village, so it was better if Darla could use it.

"Use it!"

Darla found it funny how Red started the stone class with such intensity. She wished to know what was in his head until her amused expression froze. His eyes widened as the Epic Class Stone dangled right before her eyes, and Red told him to use it.

She opened her mouth, then closed it again. She could not really say anything, at a loss for words.

’What happened?’

Darla received the class stone with both hands.

[Do you want to use Epic Stone Class: Mystic Chef?]

Only then did she remember what the class was; it was a better version of Cook Class for sure. She had heard Elite Chef, Wandering Gourmet, and even Royal Chef. But this was her first time hearing about Mystic Chef.

It made sense that Red gave it to her instead of using it himself. The class didn’t fit him- not something he wanted. While the idea of cooking together in the same kitchen with Red was wonderful, that was not something that could be fulfilled.

It was a wonderful idea, but not something they could achieve with the current situation. She needed Red’s protection, and Red needed strength to protect himself. As long as they stayed in the village, one of them needed to be strong to protect them from harm. Even the goblins in the village were not kind to them.

"Can I really use it?" She asked for confirmation.

It was still hard to believe that she was given an Epic Class Stone. She didn’t want to make the mistake of misinterpreting Red’s intention.

"Use it!" Red responded with a little bit more commanding tone.

That removed her hesitation, and she learned the class. She was excited at the prospect of her new class and quickly agreed to learn the class. She didn’t know anything else about the process until it hit her.

Her face scrunched in pain, her eyes shook as her hands clutched at her chest. It was like something dug into her heart, and something was pulled out of her. The excruciating pain hit her, and she had never felt such pain in her life. Tears flowed out of her eyes as her body collapsed to the side.

Red panicked and caught her. He said something to her, but she could not really figure out what he said. It was faint, as her focus was the pain in her chest that soon moved up to her head. Both her chest and head were in pain as her mouth gasped for breath.
