“Whoosh!”
Within the pitch black sea of flames, the tempest started whirling together into a tornado. It blew right through the bounds set by the black flames before whipping across the entire area.
The black hellfire was pulled along by the furious winds. Although it wasn’t extinguished, it was still blown away and scattered.
The knights and adventurers surrounded by the black flames finally saw the day again and avoided a complete wipe-out.
“Damn it!”
Baydr was enraged. He once again released enormous magic from his body in preparation for a second spell.
However, this time, Shien didn’t give him the chance to.
“I want to see how you dodge this!”
Shien, who had at some point moved to everyone’s front, grabbed a fist full of rocks and started throwing them in Baydr’s direction like a machine gun.
The rocks were like cannonballs, blasting through the air. They pierced the sound barrier, releasing sonic booms, as they shot forth in Baydr’s direction.
“[Black Curtain]!”
Baydr reacted by chanting a new spell, releasing a pitch black curtain of magic power around him into a barrier.
When the oncoming rock cannonballs made contact with the black magic curtain, they were completely sucked in like being swallowed by a black hole. All they did was make a few ripples on the surface of the curtain before disappearing without a trace.
“Defensive magic huh?”
Shien stopped his throwing and tossed away the rest of the rocks in his hand.
However, since Shien stopped attacking, that gave Baydr an opening.
As he looked at the man standing in front of all the knights and adventurers, Baydr’s flame of rage only grew.
After all, Shien was the person that Baydr wanted to kill the most.
Be it the matter with Jillian or that mysterious magic item that killed all of his subordinates, that man seemed to have had something to do with both of them.
How that the man in question had come forth, Baydr naturally won’t allow him to leave.
“[Enmity Lightning]!”
Without wasting any words, Baydr shot the fastest spell he knew towards Shien.
It released a great number of lightning bolts. They also descended abnormally fast. All anyone could see was a flash before Shien was struck by countless black bolts of lightning from above.
“Shien!”
“Mr. Shien!”
As Vivian, who had been dragging the injured to the back, saw this, her expression changed. Even Melika couldn’t help but yell out in alarm.
However, Shien who was bathed in pitch-black lightning bolts was completely calm. Not only was he completely uninjured, he even looked at Baydr with a grin.
The expression seemed to be saying something like “Is that all? Did you skip lunch or something? Put more strength into it!”
“How is that possible?”
Baydr couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
That was a spell that Baydr was quite proud of. Although it’s destructive power wasn’t quite as high as [Hellfire], it’s still high class darkness magic. Against a normal opponent, never mind taking it head on, even just touching it would end with them getting cursed and falling dead on the spot.
If it was Vivian, perhaps she could withstand the entirety of this spell, but that was because of Vivian personally being special. She was basically unique within the entire mortal world, so how had Shien managed to the same?
“[Enmity Lighting]!”
Baydr, unwilling to believe what he was seeing, clenched his teeth and once again used the same spell, causing even more black lightning bolts to fall from the sky upon Shien’s.
Unfortunately for him, it was a completely wasted effort.
“[Lightning]!”
Shien, while still bathed in lightning, released his own spell. A brilliant bolt of lightning entirely unlike the black lightning bolts pierced the sky and fell upon Baydr.
“[Black Curtain]!”
Baydr reacted quickly. He near automatically utilized his defensive spell, releasing a black curtain to rise up and completely cover himself.
The lightning that Shien released made contact with the curtain, and much like the rocks from before, only created a ripple across the surface of the curtain before disappearing without a trace.
“It seems like long distance attacks are unlikely to have any effect.”
Shien wasn’t dismayed at all by the result. Instead, he just coolly concluded his observation.
Of course, Shien wasn’t the only one to have made such a conclusion.
“Use this!”
Not far away, Diere appeared without a trace and tossed a sword toward Shien.
“Thanks!”
Shien didn’t bother to restrain himself. He just reached out and received the sword that Diere had thrown his way.
When he caught it though, Shien realized that this sword actually wasn’t just a normal weapon.
The blade shone like platinum. The hilt was clear as crystal. Magic power flowed through it. It was obvious from a glanch that it was something exceptionally valuable.
“M-my sword…!?”
