c618: Chased Home for the First Time (2)

Glenn shouted toward the door, "Who’s there?"

Renee called back, "I heard your toilet was clogged, so I came to help."

Willow’s eyes widened in astonishment.

’How could anyone possibly know about this?’

"Sis, should I open the door?" Glenn asked.

Willow pressed her lips together and forced out a single word: "Open."

’She really didn’t know what else to do. She didn’t want to use her hands, but if James Yelric came home tonight and found the toilet still clogged, he would definitely beat her.’

’She didn’t want to get beaten.’

With his sister’s permission, Glenn went to open the door. When he saw Renee standing there, panic flooded his small, gaunt face.

"Sis, this is bad! It’s the person who bought the pomegranates!"

At his words, Renee raised an eyebrow, a flicker of surprise in her eyes.

’The boy is quick on his feet.’

Glenn tried to shut the door again, but it was too late.

Willow ran out from the direction of the bathroom, pulling her brother behind her and staring warily at Renee and Henry. "What do you want?"

’She’d seen people come to them at the market to complain about bad fruit, but this was the first time anyone had tracked them all the way home.’

"You’re Willow, right? Don’t be afraid." Renee softened her voice, a gentle smile on her face. "I’m not here for a refund on the pomegranates."

Willow’s brow furrowed as she asked uneasily, "Then what are you doing here?"

Renee said, "I heard your toilet was clogged, so I called a plumber to help."

A flicker of confusion crossed Willow’s eyes. "You... How did you know?"

"Because I have Magic," Renee said with a smile.

"Really?" Glenn’s face lit up with excitement. He peeked out from behind his sister and asked eagerly, "Then can you use your Magic to make some meat for me to eat?"

Renee replied, "Magic can’t make meat, but I can buy you some."

"You’re lying," Willow said, pulling her brother behind her again. "Magic isn’t real!"

Renee smiled, raising an eyebrow. "But the part about getting your toilet fixed is real."

She held up her phone as it rang and answered. "Yes, this is the place. Come right on up."

Soon, a middle-aged man in dark blue overalls, carrying a tool bag, arrived at the door.

Renee made the introduction. "This is the plumber who’s come to help. Willow, can you show him to the bathroom?"

Willow hesitated for a moment, eyeing the man and his tool bag. Seeing his equipment, she realized he really did seem to be a plumber.

Her lips moved, and she said softly, "Then... follow me."

"You got it." The plumber picked up his tools and followed her inside.

Glenn stared eagerly at Renee, his mind filled with visions of fragrant chicken drumsticks and savory braised pork.
