c113: Mom Knows That You’re Dating

Chapter 113: Chapter 113 Mom Knows That You’re Dating "It is okay. I did say that I liked hearing you speak. It is the truth." He says sincerely with a smile. "What about you? Got dissatisfied complains that I can listen to?" I should also extend. I am not the only one with complaints, am I?

He shakes his head calmly, no. "I have only be meaning to tell you something and I felt like I should gather courage before saying it."

"What is it?"

"Remember what I told you earlier today, about my Father?"

I nod.

"I have to go over there and meet him." He seems glum informing.

I ask, "Where?"

"Chicago. And I’m leaving tonight." He says. It takes a while for me to register what that means. And when it does, I quickly wear a mask of cheerfulness. Clapping, "That is great! You should go see him. Yeah, totally! There is a chance that you can work out your differences." I ended awkwardly with a chuckle. What was that? I sounded so embarrassing didn’t I? Oh Gosh!

"It just kind off happened and I could not delay it any longer. But do not worry. I would make sure he doesn’t come at you while I am gone."

"Oh you don’t have to. I’m not scared of him or anyone in this school. I’m not a chicken to be scared of them." I changed my voice to sound brave and not bothered by the fact. I knew it. Good and happy times tend to be short. I always knew something like this would happen. But I did not expect it to be so soon. I had barely started to enjoy the protection. But now it has suddenly been pulled from under my feet. "I have been handling them long before you came. I will be fine." I take a sip of my yoghurt and put it down. "It is not like he can literally kill me or anything. How long would you be gone?"

"I really cannot say."

THE NEXT MORNING

GWENETH

Today is going to be different. Mostly bad. But I can’t tell how much. I am chatting on the phone with Rex right now. It feels so different and I’m not really into it because he is miles away from here leaving me to face the lions once again.

Good moments never really do last.

«I spoke to him and the others. They won’t be bothering you. But Calix is a little unpredictable and I would like you to stay out of his way and be invisible to him so he barely notices you.» His text reads.

«I can do that. It is easy.» I respond.

It is not easy.

Because predators tend to seek out prey. As a prey, it does not matter where you hide. You have to be really good at hiding for you to not be found and turn limb from limb by the predators. The only way I can escape Calix is if he does not come to find me.

"How long would you be gone for?" Yesterday he had told me that he wasn’t sure. I just hope he is now.

«I don’t know exactly. It depends on what would keep me there.»

«Okay.»

«Don’t worry, I would be back quickly enough to play your Romeo. I would be practicing my lines over there. So you better do yours too my lady Juliet.» I blush.

«Or if you want, we can do it over skype.» He suggests.

«I’d like that.» I notice Dad eyeing me like he wants to say something. But he doesn’t because he is singing along to his favorite country song and he does not want to cut it to ask why I am blushing. I am no longer hiding the fact that I am in a relationship since he and mom had already concluded a long time ago that I was in one.

Speaking of mom, she was giving me an unreadable look that I found suspicious this morning. Kinda makes me wonder if Dad. . .

"Dad, did you say anything to mom?" I ask while looking at him closely and watching out for lying signs. I can also tell when he is lying.

"Something like what?"

"Like me dating someone?" Anything he says now would be a lie. I can see it in his eyes.

The way they are moving around in their sockets. He is thinking about what to say. Which shouldn’t be unless one wants to tell a lie, right? "No."

LIE.

"She only just asked if I knew whether you were doing okay at school and I told her yes. And I also—" I pop my brow, waiting for him to complete the sentence. "Okay fine. I did tell her that you are now in a relationship. Was it supposed to be a secret? Even if was, I can’t keep it from her. You needed to see the way she was staring at me with eagle type eyes.

I could not lie even if I wanted to."

"DAD!" I call out in wild shock. I knew it! I knew there was something behind why she was staring at me like that this morning.

"She wasn’t angry or anything— I can tell that is what you are afraid of. She asked me to find out if he is treating you right. Is he treating you right?"

"Mom did?" That is too good to believe. He must be making it up.

"Yeah. It is true. Otherwise she would have had your neck had breakfast."

I give it a thought. "That sounds about right. Oh, but you should not have told her. It was a secret. Way bigger to me than any of those classified criminal and government top secrets!"

"Maybe. But it did not incite a domestic uproar. So answer me, is he treating you right? You know you can tell the truth if he isn’t?"

"He is nice and great to me. You said it yourself too that it was obvious."

"I know I did. But people pretend and fake things a lot more than you think. Oh! Here is another one of my favorite song. Save whatever question you have for when it is over."

"Of course. I am almost at school anyway." He barely hears that as he is now singing along to another song which I’m starting to hate because of how many time he has made me listen to it.

I still cannot believe that Mom knows I’m dating.

How am I going to face her now?
