c2234: 2235: Cubic’s Obsession

The Gentle Wave Sea lies adjacent to the Green Plains, a vast and true ocean.

This ocean encircles the entire continent.

In the eyes of other elemental creatures, the Gentle Wave Sea is nameless, for despite its vastness, capable of surrounding the entire continent, its water system strength is not as vigorous as the other water system areas within the Tidal World.

For such an ordinary sea with sparse water system strength, other elemental creatures simply call it "the sea," and have not bothered to name it specifically.

The Gentle Wave Sea, as named by the gentle wind Uranus, signifies "the peace of the sea, with gentle winds rippling soft waves."

In terms of naming, the Gentle Wave Sea is certainly more beautiful than the Nameless Sea, so Angel, following the naming by the gentle wind Uranus, also refers to it as the Gentle Wave Sea.

Because of its weak water system strength, Gentle Wave Sea, although occasionally births a few water elemental spirits from the World’s Harmony, in itself has yet to form a water system monarch. Therefore, traveling through the Gentle Wave Sea is not bound by rules, making for a very smooth journey.

This time, Angel is headed to the Malaya Ice Mountain, planning to meet with Frost Iser.

You can get to Malaya Ice Mountain by land or sea, by land you’ll pass through six different elemental regions; by sea, you merely have to follow the coastline, and you will reach Malaya Ice Mountain straight away, thousands of miles ahead. Due to differing rules in each region, to avoid being subject to various constraints, Angel opted for the sea route.

On the sea, without being intercepted by elemental creatures, the flight of the Gondola is very smooth, so much so that it becomes rather boring.

In those idle times, with nothing much to do, Angel joins Toby in secretly observing Cubic.

Ever since Toby first laid eyes on Cubic, it showed immense interest in the Wind Elemental Spirit; ever since Cubic boarded the ship, Toby has been fixated, observing Cubic’s every move.

Toby’s stare leaves Dangross, yearning for Toby’s attention, in a state of dismay; it also leaves Cubic feeling bewildered, unsure why it has captured Toby’s attention.

However, even before Cubic boarded, it had heard from Kamil about Toby’s deep connection with the former ruler of the Tidal World—Kalomchis; hence, when faced with Toby’s unabashed gaze, Cubic dares not question it and pretends not to notice.

Even among all the elemental creatures, including Dangross, they could not understand why Toby treated Cubic differently. But Angel understood what Toby meant, it was merely curious, and perhaps carried some other intentions, such as seeing if Cubic could... transform.

Yes, transform indeed.

Toby’s thoughts might seem odd to others, but understanding the context makes it easy to comprehend.

Earlier, during their journey from Revelation Continent to Old Earth Continent, to alleviate Toby’s boredom, Angel presented films from Earth using the Illusionary Realm.

Among the films was one called "Flying Pig Girl," detailing a pink flying pig transforming into a superheroine, rescuing innocent bystanders affected by evil forces.

This is a low-age fantasy animation film, which made Angel sleepy, but Toby watched with great interest. Even to the point where those few days, it deliberately wore a pink lace tutu similar to that of the Flying Pig Girl.

It’s fair to say Toby was a minor fan of the Flying Pig Girl, not to the point of obsession, but certainly had a fondness.

With this mindset, Toby encountered Cubic.

At first sight, Toby was astonished by Cubic, as its appearance was strikingly similar to the Flying Pig Girl. The only differences being the Flying Pig Girl’s skin was overly pink, whereas Cubic looked more delicately pink; and the Flying Pig Girl’s wings were slightly larger than Cubic’s.

Though Toby did not show it, it secretly pondered if Cubic might have any relation to the Flying Pig Girl.

That’s why, upon learning that Cubic was to board the ship, Toby again donned that pink lace tutu, to see if Cubic would react to this attire.

Yet, Cubic entirely ignored Toby’s outfit, adhering strictly to the Sage Kamill’s suggestion, avoiding eye contact with the prominent figure of Toby, who hides an implicit identity and status.

For Cubic’s lack of reaction, Toby was rather disappointed, but being the first time it got so close to a "movie star," it wasn’t too upset, nor did it abandon its "idol-chasing" path, continuing to gaze at Cubic expectantly, hoping Cubic might acknowledge its little fan.

Unfortunately, Toby didn’t know that idol-chasing follows certain norms, where fans chase their idols, not vice versa. So, if Toby continues to stay silent, Cubic probably still won’t acknowledge it.

For Toby’s behavior, Angel felt quite helpless and a bit at a loss.

From the start, he had told Toby that the films in the Illusionary Realm were merely a special kind of theater play, not to take them too seriously. But when it came to reality, Toby took it seriously.

Even with Angel’s discouragement, Toby paid no heed.

The consolation, though, was that while Toby’s reasoning suddenly turned peculiar, it retained some pride and restraint, refraining from directly engaging with Cubic, thus avoiding any embarrassments.

Hence, Angel thought it through and was at ease with it. The worst could be Cubic shattering Toby’s illusions; even though the atmosphere might turn slightly awkward then, at least Toby would return to reality from its idol-chasing path.

Therefore, Angel did not stop Toby from gazing at Cubic, even beginning to discreetly observe Cubic himself.

Unlike Toby, Angel’s interest in Cubic was purely out of boredom, wanting to take this time to see exactly what kind of pig Cubic was and whether it was suitable to become an elemental partner.

After all, Angel had studied some Heart Illusions; although he didn’t directly inquire, by observing daily details, he gradually sketched out Cubic’s psychological profile.

With the profiling, Angel discovered that Cubic indeed harbored some slight psychological issues.

Cubic held an obsession, which, under its influence, occasionally led to some out-of-line actions, just like Cubic’s offense to Angel when he initially arrived on Wind Island, was an act out of obsession.

Setting aside the obsession, Cubic is just a normal and steady child.

In the profiling, Angel also found the obsession was undoubtedly connected to Wind Island, as despite having reached the Gentle Wave Sea, long away from Wind Island now, Cubic still occasionally glanced towards Wind Island’s direction, eyes filled with longing and attachment.

This longing and attachment are undoubtedly tied to the obsession.

So, Angel concluded that Cubic’s psychological issues were rooted in Wind Island. Considering some of the happenings on Wind Island, combined with some rumors Angel had heard, he could somewhat guess what Cubic’s obsession was.

It’s likely related to the Sage Kamil, who earnestly wished to send Cubic away from Wind Island.

Angel recalled Kamil’s assessment of Cubic: due to lack of discipline, Cubic was somewhat mischievous, nearly to the point of being unruly.

However, the real Cubic wasn’t as incorrigible as Kamil described.

What Kamil saw was only Cubic’s deliberate display for Kamil; in private, Cubic was not unruly.

Based on this judgment, Angel understood why, when he first arrived on Wind Island, Cubic showed signs of offense. It wasn’t because of Angel, but at that time, Kamil was standing right beside Angel.

Why did Cubic behave so mischievously in the presence of Kamil? From a psychological perspective, it might be due to dissatisfaction or possibly anxiety and insecurity.

Angel didn’t know which one it was, but no matter which, it was all Cubic’s way of expressing love towards Kamil.

It yearned to show its presence through unusual behavior, hoping to attract Kamil’s attention.
