Several open reference books and test papers were scattered on the sofa.
Seeing Yan Feifan, Yan Ziruo couldn’t help but complain, "Feifan, what kind of crappy practice questions did you come up with?"
"It’s so hard even I, a top-tier university graduate, can’t solve them."
Yan Feifan shot his sister a contemptuous look. "Just because you’re slow and have a bad memory doesn’t mean my practice questions are bad."
"Let me tell you, these questions are definitely not beyond the scope of the curriculum!"
He looked at Xiaoyu and asked, "Are you finding them very difficult?"
Tian Yu replied cautiously, "Mr. Yan, they feel a lot harder than the practice exams our teacher gave us."
"There are some questions I really can’t do."
"Mr. Yan, am I really stupid?"
Seeing Xiaoyu’s confidence waver, Yan Feifan quickly explained, "The practice exams your teacher gives you are standard. They have a mix of easy and difficult questions."
"The questions I gave you skip all the easy ones, which is why they feel so hard."
Yan Feifan encouraged her, "Xiaoyu, if you can completely master this set of practice questions I made for you, I’m confident you can raise your total score on the high school entrance exam by forty or fifty points."
Tian Yu nodded emphatically. "Mr. Yan, I’ll be sure to study this practice set very hard."
After a pause, Tian Yu changed the subject. "Mr. Yan, I have something to tell you..."
"That person my homeroom teacher, Mr. Kang, asked you to treat... he wasn’t a relative of his at all.
"Just a few days ago, Mr. Kang’s wife was transferred from out of town to an elementary school in the district."
"Seriously, he’s even using his students’ parents to pull strings."
Yan Feifan patted Xiaoyu’s head a few times and smiled. "That’s just how society is these days. It’s all about trading favors and using connections."
"Didn’t I also use my connections to pull some strings for you?"
Yan Feifan continued to advise, "People are willing to help you mainly because you have value to offer. No one is going to help a good-for-nothing."
"Xiaoyu, work hard and make yourself into a person of great value."
"In the future, you’ll be able to help me."
Tian Yu hummed in agreement and declared, "Mr. Yan, I’ll work very, very hard to become a very capable person, so I can help you with lots of things in the future."
Yan Feifan smiled. "Let’s not talk about that for now. Time to study."
