Watching Yan Feifan being taken away by the helicopter, Wang Chuan, Yan Ziruo, and the others saw it was nearly four in the morning. With no desire to sleep, they simply set up a folding table and chairs under the RV’s awning to brew tea and chat.
"Sigh, I forgot to make Feifan take his phone."
Yan Ziruo placed her brother’s phone on a folding chair, saying with a mix of frustration and worry, "Without his phone, he won’t be able to contact us if something happens."
Wang Chuan comforted her, saying, "Feifan was just picked up for an emergency surgery. We’ll head over to the Armed Police General Hospital as soon as it’s light out."
Yu Suye picked up Yan Feifan’s phone and pressed the power button, discovering it was already on.
She skillfully entered the pattern-based password and found several call records in the notifications from around two in the morning.
Yu Suye suddenly noticed Song Yi staring at her and explained with a light chuckle, "We all know Feifan’s unlock password."
"There are no secrets on his phone. He barely has anyone saved in his contacts."
Yu Suye tapped her own head with a finger and said, "The real secrets and important things, he keeps them all up here in his head."
"He trusts his own memory more than electronic devices."
This piqued Song Yi’s interest.
"Su Ye, quick, check for my number. Is it saved in his contacts, or is it in his head?"
Yu Suye scrolled through the contacts and, sure enough, couldn’t find Song Yi’s number.
Next, she couldn’t find Wang Chuan’s or Yanyan’s numbers either.
The names Lo Jun, Chen Yu, and Qin Ying were also nowhere to be found.
However, the contacts did list the names Yu Suye and Yan Ziruo.
Yu Suye then added, "I added my own name. It was to stake my claim."
"Feifan says that he mostly interacts with doctors and other prominent people. If his contact list were stolen, it could cause unnecessary trouble for them."
Wang Chuan chuckled. "That Feifan is really confident in himself, isn’t he? Not worried at all about mixing up information as time goes on."
Yan Ziruo smiled faintly and explained, "Feifan says it’s also a kind of test for himself."
"If he sees a familiar number calling but can’t immediately recall who it is, it would indicate that his memory is declining or that there’s a problem."
After a pause, Yan Ziruo sighed again. "I used to always dream that Feifan would make a name for himself and earn a lot of money, so I could just live a life of leisure."
"But now, Feifan has well and truly made it big."
"Watching him work and study so hard, so tired he just collapses into bed, and with emergency calls that can ring at any time... my heart just aches."
Wang Chuan reached out and patted Yan Ziruo’s shoulder comfortingly. "The greatest of heroes serve the country and its people."
"Feifan’s medical skills are now irreplaceable, so he’s bound to bear many extra responsibilities."
"This is a case of ’heavy is the head that wears the crown.’ I believe Feifan’s future will only get better and better."
Yan Ziruo pouted and sighed softly. "Right now, I just wish Feifan could be an ordinary, stable, small-time doctor who clocks in and out on time."
"There’s a line of poetry that perfectly captures how I feel..."
"What poem is it, sis?" Yu Suye pressed.
Yan Ziruo huffed, "’I regret sending my husband off to seek a noble title.’ I think the sentiment of that line fits my feelings quite well."
Song Yi huffed a couple of times as well. "Sister, that line is actually just blatant showing off. In modern slang, it’s a classic humblebrag."
Her words immediately lightened the somewhat heavy atmosphere, making it lively again.
Yan Ziruo protested coquettishly, "How am I showing off?"
"I really do wish Feifan was just an ordinary doctor, healthy and free from illness or disaster."
Song Yi went straight for the jugular, asking, "So you’d stop driving the Cayenne?"
"And you’d move out of your current house? Back to the remote Happiness Garden?"
"And the makeup you use, the clothes you wear—would you go back to the few-hundred-yuan level from big-box stores?"
Yan Ziruo said hesitantly, "Well... Feifan doesn’t have to be *too* ordinary. Just a little less amazing than he is now would be fine."
Her words immediately earned her several scornful looks.
Yan Ziruo defended herself, "Well, it’s easy to go from frugal to lavish, but hard to go from lavish back to frugal."
She then challenged them indignantly, "Don’t just look down on me! Ask yourselves..."
"Would you be willing to give up everything you have now, just to ensure the peace and safety of a loved one?"
Song Yi said in a solemn voice, "I would!"
"I would give everything I have for my brother to have a heart that’s always healthy."
Wang Chuan looked at his daughter sitting beside him. Although he said nothing, his meaning was self-evident.
Yu Suye said with some difficulty, "Right now, I don’t really have anything worth exchanging."
"The few loved ones I would sacrifice for are all doing pretty well."
She then added, "And Feifan himself would definitely not want to be an ordinary doctor. Not even a slightly less amazing one."
"He always pursues perfection and the ultimate in everything he does."
