Opheli looked at the three monsters, but the thought of Valencia shifted her focus. She stood and hurried to the tent.
âYour Grace!â she called. Valencia stood and looked at her, Valenciaâs eyes returning green before her presence. âAre you alright?â
âIâŠâ
âGet her out of there!â Kael commanded.
âMy apologies, Your Grace,â Opheli bowed. Then Opheli grabbed Valencia and princessly carried her out of the tent.
Valencia stood in the center with the team surrounding them. She turned and glanced at Falren. He stared at her and nodded.
âYour Grace, Iâm Priest Falren. Did you have any injury?â
âIf she does, youâre all paying for it!â Kael demanded.
âYes, Commander!â they shouted together.
Valencia shook her head.
âIâm fineâŠâ she answered. I hope they didnât see the Void that pierced through. Her eyes gazed at the three monsters she attacked. Her Void diminished into ashes, leaving no trace behind.
âDonât worry. I made sure itâs as small as a needle,â Vrastos stated.
She crept a little closer to the inner circle, standing behind Kael.
Falren stared at her. Is she⊠the Guide that His Grace brought with him? As her gaze shifted toward him, he flinched, his eyes widening. Her⊠her eyes?! There are purple stars! Just likeâ
âWatch out!â Valencia yelled.
Falren froze. A monster jumped over Kael and his crew, launching its claws at Falren. Valencia reached her hand over Falrenâs head, pushing him down.
âNo! Valencia!â Kael screamed and ran towards her. He summoned a Light spear and threw itâ
The spear landed, yet the claws scraped her back. She groaned. Gusto leaped in and hammered the monster away.
âCommander, there are too many for us! We need to escape!â Gusto suggested.
Kael grabbed onto Valenciaâs waist and hugged her. He gazed over his shoulder as he looked around. More monsters appeared. How could there be so many monsters? Did my eight years of absence cause this? He clutched onto her sleeves tightly.
âMount on and hurry to the main base!â he commanded.
âYes!â they obeyed.
Jun and Falren mounted together as the others followed. They hurried out of there.
Once they reached the main base camp, the monsters stopped and growled, retreating. Kael turned back to watch the monsters scurrying away. Then he looked down to find her green eyes staring up at him. He sighed and pecked a kiss on her forehead. She quickly flushed and pushed him off the horse.
Everyone stopped, dropping everything in their hands, and turned to them.
âCommander?!â
Valencia quickly covered her red face behind her gloves.
âWhy did you do that suddenly?!â she screamed.
Kael chuckled as he looked up at her. He leaned his head against his wrist.
âI just thought my wife was adorable,â he replied.
Valencia clenched her fists as she shut her eyes tightly. This bastard! Took me by surprise.
âDid they say His Grace had returned?!â an elderly manâs voice questioned, opening the tent. Then he locked his eyes on Kael as Kael stood and reached out a hand to Valencia.
âLet me check your wound behind your backââ
âYour Grace!â the man called, slapping Kael on the back.
âAHH!â Kael screamed in agony. He crouched as his back ached.
Valencia peeked between her fingers and looked at them.
âWhoâs this?â
âYouâve finally returned! After eight years!â the man cried happily.
Adon and Detri sighed, shaking their heads.
âCaptain XavierâŠâ Opheli said. âDonât injure our Commander when we still need his help.â
Xavier laughed and patted Kaelâs shoulder.
âThis little man left and made everyone think he was about to die. Now he returns, so of course, I will be too happy without controlling myself!â
Kael groaned and glanced over his shoulder to look up.
âAt least, give me a warning⊠before you embarrass me in front of my wife.â
Valencia bit her lower lip and averted her eyes. Ack. The scratches hurt a little. She moved her head a little.
Falren watched her trying to look at her injuries. He dismounted and walked to her. He reached out a hand to her.
âYour Grace, I can take a look at your injuries,â Falren claimed.
Valencia turned to him immediately. She gulped and looked at his hand. Wait⊠isnât he a priest? Wouldnât he be able to tell if Iâm an Esper?
Kael glared at Falrenâs hand. He slapped the hand and stood between them.
âI can heal my wifeâs injury. You go tend to the others,â Kael ordered.
