A Priest (2)

Opheli groaned and frowned.

“Commander, you don’t need to be so petty about a priest trying to heal your wife’s injuries…”

“In order for a priest to heal anyone, he must touch the patient. My wife is my patient. I will heal only her,” Kael argued, pointing at himself with his thumb. He reached out his hand in the air, waiting for Valencia to grab it.

All eyes were fixed on her. The stares made her uncomfortable as she hesitantly took the hand. Kael pulled her down and quickly turned around to catch her. He shot a glare at Falren before healing Valencia with his Light power. The scratch marks on Valencia soon faded, sizzling as they closed.

Then he removed his cape and hurled it over her back.

“We will stay here for today and scout tomorrow… there seem to be more monsters than ever,” Kael stated.

“Yes, Commander!” everyone shouted.

Opheli rolled her eyes and hurried into her tent. Valencia looked at Kael.

“Why did the monsters leave after reaching the base camp?” she asked curiously.

Xavier paused and stared at her with confusion.

“Do you not know?” he questioned. Valencia locked eyes with him and shook her head. He smiled widely. “We gathered magic stones that helped repel these monsters. With the help of the Tower Master, the monsters can feel the overwhelming aura and get scared of them.”

Valencia nodded slowly, thinking about each word.

“So, Eldrich invented these magic stones to repel the monsters?” she wondered.

Xavier paused.

“You… just called the Tower Master by his name?”

Kael hissed at Xavier to leave.

“My wife is quite close with the Tower Master, so leave us alone. I will explain everything to my wife,” he claimed.

Xavier whimpered and nodded. He walked away with his arms slumped.

“You didn’t have to say that…”

“You should rest. We can talk about this tomorrow,” Kael demanded.

Valencia pouted and clutched onto his shirt tightly as she rested her head against his chest. She slowly closed her eyes. Since when… did I feel this sleepy?

Kael personally carried her into a tent they had built for him. He smiled and placed her on the bed. He kissed her forehead and stared at her. Detri suddenly entered the tent.

“Commander,” Detri called.

Kael pulled away and looked at him.

“What did Xavier say about the monsters?” Kael asked, his gaze darkening.

Detri bowed and lowered his head.

“Captain Xavier mentioned that the monsters grew rapidly since two weeks ago…”

“Two weeks ago… not eight years?”

“That’s correct. If I am understanding this… Your Grace—!” Detri paused, rubbing his chin.

Kael squinted his eyes and took a deep breath.

“This nearly happened on the day of the Temple. Could the Royal Family have something to do with this? Because… the world will be in danger if they forsake humanity.”

Detri’s jaw tensed upon the words, remaining speechless.

Kael gritted his teeth silently. Gerald… or His Majesty. Do you really hate the previous Void Esper? Or do you hate me?
