c459: Procession (2)

"I better not hear anything about ass and pussy, not even breasts."

My mouth, which had been about to move, closed, my tongue going back to rest.

A calm silence descended in the room, Martha’s comb going through her hair being the only sound.

Thinking, I turned to the side, staring at her back before looking back to the ceiling.

"I’ve gotten so much in such a little time, and I want to protect it all."

I didn’t say another word for the next few seconds, and it was Martha who broke the silence.

"How far are you willing to go to protect it all?"

I didn’t give Martha’s words a reply, and I was surprised when a hand stretched out and fell on mine.

Turning to my side, my gaze fell on Martha, and she didn’t waste time speaking.

"We are soon going to be a family. A real one."

The woman ended it at that, taking a few seconds to stare into my eyes before gently sliding her hand from mine, making sure the tips of our fingers were the last thing to meet.

While Martha returned to combing her hair, I embraced my thoughts, and at some point, a small smile stretched across my lips.

Ring!! Ring!!

The sound of my phone woke me from my monotony, and I lazily reached into my pocket and took out my phone.

"Nadia," I answered.

The woman’s voice came hurriedly from the other side, a mix of pleas and instructions reaching me.

"Alright, I’ll do that."

When the call ended, I let out a chuckle as I continued to languish.

"Who was that?" Martha asked, surprised.

"Nadia," I answered.

"Hmmm."

Martha said nothing further, but I shook my head internally at my PA.

For such an event, Denise should have been the chief coordinator, but Nadia was insistent.

"Los Angeles is my territory, let me handle it."

The woman hadn’t even wanted her mentor to come to the state, and from her tone over the phone, it was clear she was under great duress.

"She’ll learn," I muttered.

We were all learning. Even me, too. I had to adapt quickly or be swallowed by the sea I jumped into.
