c101: Suspension

Chapter 101: Chapter 101 Suspension It starts to dawn on me; the cruel reality of my place.

This was it.

It is not that they cannot believe me. But they are choosing not to.

"Gweneth Calloway, as from this moment on, you are on suspension. Indefinitely."

The words were ringing loudly in my ears even after I had left the office. The world coming to an end or someone close to me suddenly dying would not have sounded as badly crushing and devastating. The world spins before it crashes and buries me under its weight.

I went back to the classroom to take my school bag. I’m feeling so many things all at once. I feel so empty like a tree that has been hollowed out. My brain desperately searching for hope to cling to that this is not real. But that escape mechanism isn’t working right now.

The gazes of the other students pierce through my skin like needles. Their words. . . It sounds distorted in my ears. I can’t make out what they are saying. I walk past Maverick, his lips were also moving. He is saying something. Perhaps asking what was going on.

But I can’t hear it. Even if I did, I wouldn’t be able to find the words to tell him. I was escorted to my locker by members of the disciplinary committee. As I walked down the hall, students held their phones up at me. I feel like an animal in a circus. Turning inside out from the shame. I can make out voices through my distorted hearing saying that it serves me right. I hear Curry’s voice. She tries to come to me but was held back. I looked away, deeply ashamed and disoriented to even face her.

After clearing out my locker completely and putting all my school belongings in a cardboard box that was given to me, the reality and embarrassment begins to sink in deeper. This is unfair. It is all so unfair. How am I going to explain to my parents? Now I know that the distance and difference between bad and evil is as vast as the Pacific.

My eyes dart around me to find the cause and reason for my misfortune. I don’t see him. It seems unlikely that he wouldn’t be here to witness the wave of destruction he had put on me. He must be having the time of his life now after he had completely ruined mine. An anger feeling comes forth somewhere in the despair. I start to think; why should I just leave like this without seeing that damn face of his? I tell the two men escorting me that there was something that I needed to retrieve from someone.

A book.

They told me to quickly go get it and meet them at the main entrance building block. I put down the box in my hands and head out to find him. There are only two places that he would be. The lounge that he treats like his kingdom.

Or at basketball practice. I go there first because it is closer than the lounge. I found him there like I had expected. Playing without a care in the world. I call out his last name with all the anger in me. I breeze past the Coach and everyone else. Walking straight to him. He holds the ball and stops playing, looking at me with a sick, sardonic smile.

I land a punch on his face immediately I got close. I’m vaguely aware of the shocked exclamations around me. I can play with fire now because I’m already burning in it and turning into ashes. It makes no difference now. Does it? I have lost the one thing I was trying so hard to protect. I have got nothing to lose now. He spits out blood. The Coach and some of the guys wanted to come at me. He stopped them,

"I got this." He says, holding his hand as a stop sign. I had punched him with everything I got but it is not satisfying at all. "Why? Tell me why? What did I ever do to you to deserve this!" My loud, broken voice reverberating. I cannot stop my tears from filling my eyes and falling. Letting your enemy see you cry tops another level and layer of defeat.

I know that. But I can’t help it.

There is cruel satisfaction in his gaze when he sees the tears. The corners of his lips quirking up with searing nonchalance. "It is because of your lowly existence. You have nothing but yet you are so arrogant. Now you know that I have control over the most important thing in your life." He says in a low cutting tone that might as well just be a knife.

He leans down, inclining his face dangerously close to mine. "Whether or not you step foot here again, depends on me. Calloway. I’d be careful how I act if I were you."

CALYX

I’ve never seen her eyes filled with so much hate and anger. Like a volcano ready to erupt. If looks could kill, her death stare would send me straight to the gates of hell. "Are you happy now?" She yells. There is so much venom in her voice, she barely sounds like herself. Everyone has gone quiet. The only sounds is her ragged breathing. "You are the devil. And I fucking hate you! Die and go to hell!" Each word drips from her lips with venomous rage. Her chest heaving, she gives me one last withering look before she walk away. I watch her, oddly fascinated by what she had just done. This is the third time now that she has confronted me. I kinda like it and also hate it.

That look in her eyes just now? I can’t describe what it gives me.

I like seeing it.

Fear and anger looks so good in her eyes. I have never considered myself a sadist, but the feeling that she brings out in me are making me second-guess.

This has not ended yet. She would be coming back here. I’ll be sure of that.

And I will enjoy every minute of breaking her over and over.
