The process of signing the contract was quick. After signing, Nis looked utterly dejected: "If I’d known, I would have just asked Lord Tree Spirit to give him a log-in device back then. We should have signed the contract in the Wilderness of Dreams, and none of this would have happened."
"What is the Wilderness of Dreams?" Kanter heard a familiar term. He had heard people mention this term when he arrived at Barbarian Cave, but he hadn’t paid it any mind. But now that Nis mentioned the Wilderness of Dreams again, it piqued Kanter’s curiosity.
Nis snorted twice: "This is an internal secret of Barbarian Cave. You’re not a member of Barbarian Cave, so why should I tell you?"
"If you’re unwilling to say it, there’s nothing I can do." After a few seconds of silence, he added, "However, I must remind you of one thing: although we have mutual friends, our relationship isn’t so close that you can call me by my name."
Nis’s expression froze, and after a moment, he obediently addressed him: "Lord Ruye."
Kanter nodded in satisfaction.
Once their contract was signed, Angel finally stepped forward and curiously asked: "Did Lord Kanter have business with me?"
Kanter nodded: "That’s right, I came to Barbarian Cave specifically to find you, but I found out you had left after arriving. I had planned to wait in Barbarian Cave for your return, but who knew I would encounter this matter just a few days later."
Although Kanter indeed wanted to look at Nis’s secret chamber, it wasn’t that urgent. Had Nis not mentioned Angel was also there, he definitely wouldn’t have agreed to escort Nis.
"What is the matter?"
Kanter sighed: "This matter concerns Qi Li..."
Before Kanter could finish, a rumbling sound mingled with mournful beast cries came from afar, accompanied by a new wave of law waves rolling in.
Everyone stopped what they were doing, and Kanter knitted his brows, looking in the direction from which the wave came.
Once the wave dissipated, Kanter said to Angel: "The matter I wish to discuss isn’t urgent; we can talk about it later. I believe your matter should be more pressing than mine."
After a pause, Kanter asked, confused: "Why are law waves so frequent around here?"
"Law waves?" Angel: "Lord, are you referring to the previous kind of wave? Can you tell us more about it?"
"Law waves, also known as law ripples, are generally the power of laws that have diffused and, without constraints, create continuous ripple-like waves in the surroundings. The law power is strongest at the core, diminishing as it spreads outward."
It was Nis, not Kanter, who spoke after finishing a Cleansing Spell.
After Nis finished, Kanter nodded: "That’s right, Nis’s explanation is accurate."
After a pause, Kanter continued: "It seems I didn’t wrongly accuse you earlier. You knew about the existence of law waves and still opened the exit here."
Nis: "I only just found out, having learned about the law waves recently from Lord Tree Spirit."
Kanter tilted his head slightly: "By the way, I’m quite curious. From what I understand, your Ancestral Spirits never leave Barbarian Cave. But you’re clearly at Devil’s Sea. How did you inform the Ancestral Spirits to sign a contract with me?"
"You said you only recently learned about the law waves from Lord Tree Spirit; how did you contact him?"
Kanter’s eyes were filled with curiosity.
This place is extremely far from Barbarian Cave. How did Nis accomplish such long-distance communication with the Tree Spirit?
Nis: "That’s a secret of Barbarian Cave, and I have no right to tell outsiders."
And the one who does have the right to tell outsiders was just behind Kanter—Angel—but Nis wouldn’t say it.
Hearing Nis, Kanter didn’t press further. Ultra-long-distance communication isn’t without solutions; even inter-world communication is possible, which explains the existence of the Expedition Team and the many Abyss outposts. However, the cost of materials is expensive.
Kanter figured that Nis had been using expensive materials to communicate with the Tree Spirit. It’s logical because during the contract signing, Nis explicitly stated this exploration was significant for him and that he was willing to spend his resources.
Angel: "Let’s discuss other matters later. I still don’t quite understand the law waves Wizard Nis mentioned earlier. What do you mean by dispersed law power? How could the power of laws diffuse?"
This time Nis didn’t speak, and Kanter explained on his behalf: "Law power generally shouldn’t diffuse..."
Laws are actually about aligning with a specific rule.
Legendary wizards and above basically can wield a certain amount of law power. Their control over it should be perfect. Unless they intentionally let it, the law power won’t diffuse.
Aside from this, witchcraft gardens also contain laws’ power. But this is a precious resource for a witchcraft garden, and no one would waste it.
Moreover, some special items also contain some solidified law power. If this power is unstable or is triggered, it might lead to diffusion.
Simply put, although law power is omnipresent, instances of diffusion are usually related to special items that have leaked it.
As for diffusion by a legendary wizard’s law power, that’s quite rare.
That’s why, even though Kanter felt the law waves, he wasn’t as cautious or afraid as Angel, Nis, or Ferro. Because, in his view, no legendary wizard would appear.
If a special item diffused its law power, there might be a way to seize it.
After hearing Kanter’s explanation, Angel relaxed slightly. Previously, without knowing the truth, they were constantly anxious about the "unknown"; now, knowing the truth of the waves, their tense hearts naturally relaxed a bit.
Even so, Angel didn’t completely let his guard down; he still had some concerns in mind.
