1. Our Principles
Protecting your personal information is a fundamental commitment of reChapters ("RCS", "we", "us"). We handle your information following the principles of legality, legitimacy, necessity, and transparency, and we build privacy protection into our products.
- We collect only the information necessary to provide and improve our services.
- We strive to use clear, plain language so you understand how your information is handled.
- We retain your personal information only for the shortest time necessary. If the service ceases operation, we will notify you and delete or anonymize your information within a reasonable period.
- Without your consent, RCS will not disclose your personal information to any company, organization, or individual outside RCS, except as described in this policy or required by law.
2. Information We Collect
We collect, store, and use the following categories of information based on legality, legitimacy, and necessity. Items marked with * are sensitive personal information.
- Account information: the email address* you provide at registration and, where you sign in via a third party such as Google, the username and avatar that provider discloses to us.
- Profile information: avatar, display name, and any profile details you choose to edit.
- Wallet & transactions*: in-platform coin balance, top-up records*, and consumption records*.
- Account security: login region, IP address*, login time, device model, network type, device identifiers, and similar data used to verify identity and detect security or fraud risks.
- Reading & service data: book/chapter reading, listening (TTS), search terms and history, browsing and bookshelf behavior, and log information* (operation, service, and crash logs) used to provide and improve the reading experience.
- Personalization: gender and reading preferences you provide, reading and browsing records, and related signals used to recommend works and personalize content.
- User-generated content: text, images, audio, or video you actively provide when rating, commenting, or reporting content.
- Mobile apps may, with your authorization, request additional device permissions (such as microphone, camera, storage, or notifications) needed for specific features; you can manage these in your system settings.
3. How We Use Information
With your consent, we use your information to:
- Provide core reading services and authenticate your identity.
- Ensure security through verification, fraud prevention, backup, and risk control.
- Diagnose faults and develop, optimize, and improve our products and services.
- Understand how you use the service so we can respond to your needs, including personalized recommendations and notifications.
- Provide top-up, purchase, customer-service, and after-sales functions.
- Conduct aggregated, de-identified analysis to understand usage trends; such reports contain no personal identifiers.
4. Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies and local storage (such as localStorage) to support and improve your experience.
- Optimizing sign-in: storing account information to simplify repeated logins.
- Security: helping detect and prevent fraud, cheating, and attacks against our service.
- Preferences: saving your reading preferences (theme, font size, paging mode), footprints, and other non-sensitive settings.
- Authentication cookies are HTTP-only and encrypted. You can manage cookies through your browser, but disabling them may prevent some features from working properly.
5. Sharing, Transfer & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data. We share, transfer, or disclose personal information only in the following limited circumstances:
- With your prior explicit consent or at your manual selection.
- With trusted partners (such as infrastructure, payment, customer-service, and communication providers) strictly to provide our services, under our instructions and confidentiality and security measures; we apply encryption and de-identification where possible.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset transfer, in which case we will inform you and require the new controller to continue protecting your information under standards no lower than this policy.
- To comply with applicable laws, court orders, or requests from competent authorities, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, RCS, or the public.
6. Accessing & Controlling Your Information
You have control over your personal information and can access, correct, delete it, withdraw consent, and deactivate your account.
- Access & correction: you can view and edit profile details such as avatar, display name, and account settings within the product.
- Deletion: you can clear data such as search and browsing history; once deleted, we delete or anonymize the corresponding information unless the law requires otherwise.
- Withdrawing consent: you can change permission authorizations in your device or system settings; afterwards we will no longer collect the related information or provide the corresponding feature.
- Account deactivation: you can request to deactivate your account; afterwards we will stop providing services and delete or anonymize your associated content, except where the law requires retention.
- We may verify your identity before acting on such requests, and may be unable to fulfil every request due to technical or legal constraints; we will respond within a reasonable period.
7. Storage & Retention
We retain your personal information only for the shortest period necessary to achieve the purposes described, unless a longer period is required by law.
- Log information is generally retained for no less than 6 months; transaction information for no less than three years from the transaction date; record backups for no less than 60 days, unless the law mandates otherwise.
- After the retention period expires, we delete or anonymize your personal information.
8. How We Protect Your Information
RCS takes reasonable measures to protect your personal information using industry-standard practices.
- Secure transmission: encryption such as TLS/HTTPS to prevent interception or eavesdropping.
- Secure storage: classifying data and applying additional protection — such as independent, encrypted storage — to sensitive personal information.
- Access control: strict permission controls, multi-factor authentication, and monitoring to prevent unauthorized access or use.
- No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we continuously work to strengthen our safeguards.
9. Children's Privacy
RCS attaches great importance to protecting minors' personal information. If you are a minor under the applicable age of majority (such as under 18), you should use the service with the consent and guidance of a parent or legal guardian.
- If you are a guardian with questions about the personal information of a minor in your care, please contact us using the details below.
10. Updates to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. For material changes, we will notify you through in-app messages, page prompts, or your registered email, and where required will seek your consent again before collecting or using your information.
